A Guide to KEIRIN

Check the Race Card

Race Card
1Basic information about the cyclists
When reading the race card, start by thoroughly familiarizing yourself with each cyclist's basic information. The race card lists each cyclist's name, registration location (or country for foreign cyclists), rank (previous year and current), performance characteristic*1, term (KEIRIN school graduating term), and age.
*1 The characteristics are either 'Breaking away' (Breaking away), 'Chasing' (Chasing) or 'Both' (Both).
2Race score

The race score quantifies each cyclist's ability level. Generally, the higher the score, the better the cyclist. The race score given here is based on each cyclist's performance over the past four months.

3Winning technique
The number of times each cyclist has used each technique when finishing in either 1st or 2nd place. Makes it easy to see which strategy each cyclist is now using.
The character indicates 1st or 2nd place finishes by front-running.
The character indicates 1st or 2nd place finishes by breakaways.
The character indicates 1st or 2nd place finishes by near-finish-line overtaking of the lead cyclist.
The character indicates 2nd place finishes by closely following ('marking') the lead cyclist.
4B (number of backstretch leads)

Indicates the number of times each cyclist has been the first to cross the backstretch line (indicating a half lap remaining).
Vital for predicting a cyclist's strategy in the final phase of a race.

5H (number of homestretch leads)

Indicates the number of times each cyclist has been the first to cross the homestretch line (indicating one lap remaining). Useful for determining whether a cyclist is often aggressively at the front during races.

6S (number of rapid starts)

Shows the number of times each cyclist has started a race quickly and gained position directly behind the lead pace-setting cyclist. The higher the value of this statistic, the more aggressive the cyclist. Comparing this value to the approaches and techniques each cyclist uses to gain position on the laps can be useful for determining how a cyclist will handle the later phases of the race.

7Win ratio

The percentage of times each cyclist has finished in 1st place over the past four months.

8Win/place ratio

The percentage of times each cyclist has finished in either 1st or 2nd place over the past four months.

9Win/place/show ratio

The percentage of times each cyclist has finished in either 1st, 2nd or 3rd place over the past four months.

10Most recent results

Shows the results from the previous venue and the current venue (arrival order, absent, disqualification, etc.).

11Mark

Shows the prediction according to KEIRIN technical paper reporters and other sources.
◎: Favorite (player likely to win)
○: Opponent (player that could beat the favorite)
